Commodore Glen van Ross is the man in charge of the Saratoga. Although he gets just as worried about the men and women under his charge as the next man, it's Ross who has all the hard decisions to make.
A long time friend of Colonel McQueen, the Commodore puts up with most of his griping and groaning, but puts his foot down when McQueen tries to overstep the mark.
Ross seems to be well respected by his crew, and the Marines on the 'Toga. His methods seem to be fair, but it is very obvious who is in charge.
He even disregards the orders of a superior officer at one point, as he want's the 'Cards "...in my sky on the double and raining fire!" because they are the best he has available to keep his people safe.

In those moments when he needs to relax, Commodore Ross plays his guitar, Roslyn (most often in his underwear!)
In his quarters can be seen many photos of his family, whom he misses greatly.
He is known to like blues music, strawberries in thick cream, and he drinks rum as a link to the Naval commanders of the past.

Glen van Ross is played with much aplomb by Tucker Smallwood.
Mr. Smallwood is an established actor, who as well as appearing in SAaB has been seen in the films "Contact" and "Deep Impact" and "The X-Files" episode "Home."
His 'commanding presence' in this series was, perhaps, due in part to his serving his country in Vietnam during the 60's. He has shared some of his experiences in that conflict with his fans, on-line at The Official Tucker Smallwood Web Site which is well worth visiting for more information.
